CA State GOP Attempts Hijack of LA GOP, Tea Party Fights Back With Lawsuit

Los Angeles, CA - It looks like Rand Paul ain't the only Tea Party cowboy wranglin' up some GOP establishment types. A bunch of Tea Partyers in Los Angeles County have managed to wrestle control of their local county party from the hands of long-time GOP establishment folks. And when them kings on the hill from the California State Republican Party tried to get heavy and throw these new-comers out of their elected offices, these "balls-to-the-wall" Tea Party cats sued their "old-guard" asses in Los Angeles Superior Court.  A judge will be hearing preliminary arguments in the case on Wednesday, May 26th 2010 in downtown Los Angeles with an all out battle royale sure to follow. This guy is packin' up the marshmallows and gettin' ready for a bonfire as the LA Tea Party tries to make an honest gal out of the California GOP. This fight is billed "Old-Guard Cranks" vs "New-Guard Zealots" and is scheduled for one fall...

The hearing is scheduled at 9:00am on Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at the LA Courthouse located at 111 N. Hill Street, LA (downtown) in Department 39. Judge Michael Solner will be presiding and will be under intense scrutiny on his decision by many watching the case. Parking is available across Grand Avenue under the Music Center ($20).

Background of the CA GOP vs LA Tea Party:

In December 2008, the incumbent chairwoman Linda Boyd was running with another gal as her vice-chair named Jane Barnett and they lost to a bunch o' Ron Paulers. Turns out Linda's husband Doug Boyd was a regional chairman of the California State GOP AND also the treasurer of another local LA County GOP candidate funding outfit called "the Lincoln Club". Let's just say that while Doug was in control of GOP money in LA, his wife Linda was the belle of the ball bestowing endorsements to LA County GOP candidates that kissed her ring as the LA GOP chair. Well, after them good ol' Ron Paulers threw Ms. Boyd and Co. out of Dodge, Mr. Boyd was none too pleased and let the world know by posting an internet blog that equated these new anti-establishment cowboys as "flotsam and jetsam".  I ain't even gonna look them words up but I'm gatherin' that it's rich people, high-society establishment type talk for "pieces o' shit". According to this lawsuit, after his and wifey's stinging defeat, Doug hi-tailed it back to the California GOP and with his other state party cohorts hatched a diabolical plot to do whatever it took to throw out these cowboy Ron Paulers and take back control of the LA County GOP. The Ron Paulers also regrouped into what is now called the "Tea Party", with Dr. Paul as it's 'Godfather', and have attracted many more average American followers since. The stage was set for the rodeo called May 14th, 2009.

Man, this story just keeps gettin' better. Hold on now, ridin' a bit rough up ahead...

May 14, 2009: During a regular meeting of the LA GOP, the CA GOP rolled in with their hired guns and young Turks and just manhandled the entire meeting. Even the California State Lawyer's Association was knee deep at this meeting. Was it just a coincidence that California GOP Chairman Ron Nehring was in town the night before this meeting? Hell, according to this guy's post, even Mike Huckabee's son was there (was the Huck exactin' some type o' revenge for Ron Paul makin' him look "stu-stu-stupid or somethin?"). According to the lawsuit filed, some guy named Mike Osborn took over the meeting and let all the rules be bent or broken to allow these Tea Partyers to be thrown out of office with some made up motion called 'vacate the chair' that went against all the LA GOP organizational bylaws. Mike even chose some dude Steve Baric to be his temporary parliamentarian, who turned out to be not only the chairman of the California Republican Lawyer's Association (gotta hit 'em "shock and awe" style, all lawyer'ed up), but is also the secretary of the...you guessed it...California State GOP. Mike then allowed fake "re-elections" to take place and wouldn't ya know? That chick that ran as the former chair Ms. Linda Boyd's second-in-command, Jane Barnett, was somehow now crowned the new chairwoman! Anyone else smell somethin' funny 'bout that? Smell a little like during the end of a parade and the horses come marchin' by leavin' their mark? Turns out this guy Mike Osborn wasn't even an LA GOP member but was the chair of the Ventura County GOP. Did I mention he was also just recently elected to the CA State GOP executive board as a regional chair alongside his bud Doug Boyd?  It's also said that Mike Osborn held himself out to be a "Certified Parliamentarian" to the crowd as he broke rules left and right. Everyone found out later Mike has the most killer poker face because he, in fact, holds no certification at all! Neither did the dude Mikey appointed as his parlimentarian, Steve Baric.  Mike Osborn totally bluffed his way in and out of everything and did it with con-man style. Yeah Mikey, I'm sayin' ur a cheat, see you out back.

Our President and Founder of this gig Restore LA, Anthony Cinelli, also happened to be at that meeting. His words about the meeting: "An absolute train-wreck. I've been a member of various boards including publicly traded companies and have never seen anything so unprofessional, so amateur. It was the corruption I witnessed first hand at that meeting that set the wheels in motion for me to found what is now Restore the Los Angeles County Republic. If you listen closely to the audio of that meeting, you can hear me trying to reason with everyone, asking for details of why such rough tactics we're being used, wanting to hear the truth, and saying 'It's never too late for the truth.' In the end, there was going to be a change in leadership whether it was legal or not."

Our bossman Anthony Cinelli went the extra mile after founding Restore LA and hired the Parliamentarian Extraordinaire Nancy Sylvester, author of "Complete Idiot's Guide to Robert's Rules" to look into the events of the May 14th hogtie. As Mr. Cinelli explains, "I figured with all of the confusion regarding the proceedings of the May 14th meeting, there needed to be a honest third-party to come in and help simplify things. As the author of the "Idiot's Guide", we'd all have to be less than idiots to not understand Ms. Sylvester's professional opinion on the matter. It turns out, however, the term 'idiot' seems to be a relative one." Ms. Sylvester weighed in and sounded like she held back some vomit writing her professional opinion of meeting events she listened to on audio.  Oh yeah, the entire meeting was recorded for posterity by two different sources:  Audio 1 - May 14, 2009 / Audio 2 - May 14, 2009  Her opinion is also filed in the lawsuit, and word is she may take the stand once this thing hits the court. Irony is the main course in this meal 'cause it turns out that the only legal outcome of all that wranglin' by the CA GOP that day was to make their worst nightmare come true: A Tea Party / Ron Pauler is now the Chairman of the LA GOP! This guy Robert Vaughn was the second vice-chair when the ruckus started. That ruckus caused the real chair and vice-chair of the LA GOP to legally resign, leavin' Vaughn the last legal chair standin'. Grasshoppa' would be proud watchin' the CA GOP punchin' themselves in the face with their own fist thrown too wild.

This Tea Party fight is now in the hands of the LA Superior Court, with preliminary hearings to happen on Wednesday May 26th, 2010 in downtown LA. If you have some marshmallows and like 'em toasted, meet me there and we'll roast 'em up together and watch the "establishment" bonfire roar.

As always, this trailblazin' Patriot has more to follow...

Great write up, and I'm interested to see how it turns out. I'm curious, however. Anthony Cinelli seems to be a solid Libertarian. Why would the GOP allow a Libertarian to take over their party? Or is this particular Tea Party not a Libertarian organization? I'm libertarian conservative myself, and applaud the shake-up, but it has the smell of one party (Libertarian) who can't get elected on their own trying to mask itself as a grassroots movement to take back America. I don't mind the sentiment, and I think it's about time the GOP became more libertarian in its leanings, to open up the tent more and to actually shrink the size of government, but it seems like all is not as it's represented. Enlighten me emoticon

Thanks for the comment and taking interest in our story. This one story we've posted is merely one that illustrates corruption in politics, exactly the sort of thing Restore the Los Angeles County Republic tries to shed some light on and ultimately, if not eliminate, reduce. Restore LA is 100% multi-partisan, and this story we've started with just happens to involve Tea Partyers and the GOP.

Restore LA will be equally reporting on indiscretions of those corupt politicans from all parties, including those who chose not to affliate with one.

We are an all equal opportunity reporter, just the facts as provided.

This is "Clearly' NOT an issue of Libertarian unable to gain support"

It is obvious to me, observing the power structure and the reactions of those who fell threatened by the sudden influx of participants and having dealt with the nuts and bolts a bit, this IS an issue of "RULE of LAW" and those claiming to be advocates of it, who, in Party Officer positions violate those same rules that they not only claim to espouse, but cherish, of course, only, when it suits them.

Did you guys ever get the original county Party documents back from the "Old Gaurd" after taking the Party back in '08? I know there was a fight there too.
Not to mention the financial disarray they left you guys in, how many of you guys were part of/aware of that?

Howdy John and welcome. I reckon rules are a funny thing to those in power like you comment. "Rules are for other people to follow and not us big-wig top-down richies."

Accountability is a bitch and she's in heat.

Restore LA is the screamin' fly on the wall in this here squabble. If ya have questions about the details try emailin' the Chairman on the Tea Party side Robert Vaughn at chairman@lagop.us and the folks gettin' sued you can ask a gal named Jane Barnett at jane@lagop.org

That's another hoot 'bout this story - The two sides got matchin' websites - lagop.us vs lagop.org - Now ain't that cute?

It appears that things didn't go well in court.
